Opa Marx 104th Birthday.

On February 24th 1903 August Marx, born in Germany at a time when there had been no world wars, the leader of Germany was Prince Wilhelm the second. Electric power was not in every home, the automobile was a novelty, and air travel was none existent. The time it took to get a letter from the US to Germany was measured in weeks.

On Christmas day 1924, he married Margarette Munzart. They lived in Geissen, Germany raising three children Lydia Marx Henricksen, Albert Marx and Adolf (Abi) Marx. The family lived for at least 30 years in a home in Geissen.

August grew up to run a business taking fruits and vegetables from the farms surrounding Geissen, to market in the city, using draft horses and a wagon. He served in the second world war at the age of 36 in 1939.

In the early 60's he died of cardiac problems.

If you have any further information about August that you would like to add or correct please email me and I will make the changes and include this biography in my family history blog.

Please review the attached family list and let me know if you can fill in any blanks. By my count August has 3 children, 10 grand children, 10 great grand children, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. 31 decedents in all.

Gavin playing at Grandpa desk.

It was a very rainy afternoon this afternoon so Gavin came into the office and we played on the desk for a little while while I took some pictures. He makes this funny face at me a lot.

Dorothy and I went to the SAP professional tennis tournament in San Jose with some friends last night (sorry forgot the camera). We watched both James Blake and Andy Roddick play matches. Both did not play thier best but Roddick at least managed a win. Fun to get out to dinner and an event with 10 of our tennis club buddies.

We will be playing in the delayed valentines tournament at the club if the rain blows through tonight. All fingers are crossed and the cookies (for the snack) are out of the oven.

Teddy Back from LA

Teddy spent the holiday weekend in LA with his drama class. He really enjoys the process of putting together a production and is good enough to get lead parts in most of the school plays. They visited the paramount studios and meet with a casting director. According to Teddy it was "Awesome!" They took in 2 or 3 plays while they were there. It was not all work they did visit Disneyland where Teddy admitted that he rode all the rides he was terrified of when we went when they were little kids. Amber and Gavin spent the weekend visiting with her girlfriends. Dorothy, Edward and I spent a quiet weekend in the house only half full.

Before Ted left he took some pictures of Gavin with my camera some of them are quite good. Here is a sample.

Raining this week and have several things that must be fixed (tooth, solar system) so I am on the phone with repair people, dentists and not having the usual relaxing walks with Revel. Maybe next weeks post's will be more upbeat. I did add a great recipe for Banana Walnut bread to the recipe blog.

The Calm in "Calm Assertive Atmosphere"

Pixie Deli

This is our little slice of heaven. This little deli is about a 30 minute walk walk from the house. We usually stop here on our way back from somewhere further away. Todays weather was wonderful and there seems to be no place on the planet where Revel is calmer. The place makes a wonderful order of French Toast on there own bread. We get Half orders, one slice each, coffee and tea. Revel gets a cookie and the total is 12.50. Like I said a little slice of heaven. There is a peek of the beach and Capitola.

Omi Marx, Happy Birthday!

Not sure how many of you know that but Omi would have been 103 today. Mom I would have added a picture here of her but I don't have one. Teddy asked me about that. We need to fix that, I would like to borrow some of your older photos and start scanning them to a web album. Will need help with names and places of course. Let's work on that over the next year.

Teddy leaves for LA for a school trip in a week. He is working on getting everything ready. Every now and then I hear him singing lines from Godspell his next play. I understand he will be playing Jesus.

Amber's birthday on friday 2/1. She was 18 and we treated her to a dinner on Saturday. She was much to busy on her birthday with friends and getting her Tattoo. Gavin is getting big, seems like he has gained 5 pounds this week. Needs to walk soon or poor Amber's going to need chiropractic help.

Edwards doing well, working and attending classes at Cabrillo college. He mostly takes fitness classes at Cabrillo which is good since other than bowling he really doesn't get any fitness in at home. Wish he would walk with Revel and I but I don't think I need to tell any of you that's not going to happen.
