Fire in Aptos

This one is too close to home. At 2:30 today while driving to work I had to pass through the area where a wild fire broke out around 2pm. The fire started along the north bound lanes of Highway 1 from the airport in Watsonville to the top of the big hill. The fire came as close as 1/2 mile from the hospital. We had plans in place to begin moving patients when they got the south side of the fire under control and the wind moved north-east. The drive home was long since Highway 1 and Freedom blvd were both still closed. I had to go south to Pajaro Dunes and then along the coast road to home. Everything in town smells like it was a little to close to the campfire.

Teddy Graduates with the Class of 2008

June 5th at 4pm Teddy graduated from high school. Gavin and I made Teddy and his friends a cake for the celebration. Gavin was very happy that Grandpa's process for making a cake includes leveling the bottom layer leaving a very large piece of cake we could share while frosting the real cake.

There were many names read today that were members of little league teams, kids who slept over when Teddy was so young he was afraid to sleep over at other peoples houses. Kids who have come for dinners, lunches. There were many both girls and boys that cheered him on today.

I have to congratulate Teddy he has made some good friends both fellow students, and teachers. He gained a lot of respect from his teachers for what it has taken to get to this graduation. I have been most impressed with his maturity and sense of responsibility in needing to make a live for his small family. The next few years should be important and difficult ones to watch and know how much to help and how much to let him grow from the difficulties.
